Mummers Announce Parade Will Go On

The Mummers will have even more to strut about New Year's Day after pledges have come in from some high-profile donors to keep the party going for years to come.

About $230,000 has been pledged this year and beyond to ensure that the Mummers will continue to march up Broad Street.

Among the donors stepping to bat are Verzion, Delaware Valley Regional Economic Development Fund, the Electric Factory, Geno's owner Joey Vento and Forman Mills, said State Sen.-elect Larry Farnese.

Farnese and U.S. Rep. Bob Brady held a noon press conference on Wednesday to announce the donations.

The Mummers made a decision to march this year despite the city cutting back the money for the parade to $300,000. Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter couldn't commit to any money for the parade beyond 2009.
