Firefighter Punished for “Mr. Philly” Calendar Shoot

Philly firefighter Jack Slivinski's 15-minutes-of-fame tour took a detour to the dog house.

He's being punished for a sexy calendar pose because he didn't give his boss a heads up (a violation of department policy) and the department doesn't like the image "beefcake calendars" portray according to the Philadelphia Daily News.

Slivinski did a photo shoot last week for a Nation's Bravest calendar. The calendar features firefighters from around the country and raises money for local families of fallen firefighters. Slivinski was supposed to be "Mr. Philly."

But according the calendar's publisher, Philadelphia Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers wants the "Mr. Philly" picture pulled and Slivinski has been reassigned to a place akin to purgatory for firefighters:

"Commissioner Lloyd Ayers has taken action against 'Mr. Philly' for participating in this charitable calendar. He superseded the Union President's decision by prohibiting Jack from participating in the calendar though the shoot has already taken place and was covered by local media. Furthermore, Commissioner Ayers permanently detailed Slivinski from Heavy Rescue 1, one of the most highly trained positions in the Philadelphia Fire Department, to Engine 54, increasing his daily commute to 1.5 hours each way. Engine 54 is widely known as a spot where firefighters are sent as punishment. Slivinski is no longer allowed to work in any special operations companies," said publisher Katherine Kostreva in an email to NBC Philadelphia.

"Why the Commissioner has taken such a strong position against the Union's choice, and made Slivinski a martyr is unclear," Kostreva said.

Commissioner Lloyd Ayers told the Daily News, "We don't sell sex, we sell safety. . .We get letters from children. They look up to us. We cannot allow [the calendar] to be showing nipples in photographs of Philadelphia firefighters."
