A Philadelphia woman pleaded guilty Thursday after her 2-year-old son picked up a loaded .357 revolver and fatally shot his 11-year-old sister.
Prosecutors said the toddler found the gun under a bed and shot Jamara Stevens while their mother, 31-year-old Tiffany Goldwire, was in the bathroom on April 5.
Assistant District Attorney Joanne Pescatore said Goldwire has never identified the man who left the loaded gun on top of the refrigerator the night before.
She said Goldwire's 14-year-old son moved it to what he thought was a safer place and told his mother. But Pescatore said Goldwire told police she was drunk and high that night.
Following the deadly shooting, an emotional Goldwire told NBC10, "I'm never gonna see my child again. This is a hard pill to swallow."
She also added a message to other mothers.
"For all the mothers who lose their kids, I feel their pain. And to the ones that still have their children, treasure every moment with your kids because you never know when you'll never see them again," she said.

Goldwire faces eight to 17 years in prison after pleading guilty Thursday to involuntary manslaughter and child endangerment. Her sentencing is Feb. 27.
Her lawyer did not immediately return a message.
