An Alabama woman has been convicted of third-degree murder in the death of her infant son more than a decade ago.
Jurors in Lehigh County deliberated for just under two hours Friday before convicting 32-year-old Wendi Stanford of Florence, Ala., on the third-degree charge as well as an endangering count. She was acquitted of first-degree murder.
Two-month-old Christopher Harbin died two days after Stanford called 911 in November 2003. An autopsy concluded that the child died from a skull fracture.
Prosecutors alleged that she shook the infant and banged his head against furniture to stop him from crying.
Defense attorney David Nicholls called the case a difficult one and said jurors may have been unhappy about his client's initial contention that another child had caused the death.
