Mother, Boyfriend Face Murder Trial in Delaware County Toddler's Death

A Philadelphia-area mother and her boyfriend are set to stand trial on third-degree murder charges in the death of her 2-year-old son.

The Delaware County Daily Times reports Shannon Matthews, 31, and Daniel Grafton, 33, of Glenolden are set for trial Monday in Common Pleas Court.

The newspaper says prosecutors offered both a plea deal with sentences of 12 to 24 years each, but they were rejected. The couple has pleaded not guilty.

Little Mason Hunt died Feb. 3 after District Attorney Jack Whelan says the boy was "terrorized during the last two days of his life." Doctors later determined the boy died from non-accidental blunt force trauma. [[300426771, C]]

The defendants each face up to 82 years in prison if they're convicted of all charges.

Both have remained jailed without bail awaiting trial, according to court records.
