Money Woes Sink the Philadelphia Belle

Riverboat ceases operations

The Philadelphia Belle is no longer rolling on the Delaware River.  General manager Perry Myles told NBC 10 Thursday “We are ceasing operations immediately”. Myles said sales were not where they needed to be.

Operators had sunk $7 million into the boat.  The Philadelphia Belle offered lunch, brunch and dinner cruises and could hold up to 1,000 people.  It had been in operation less than a year.

“We had hoped to rescue the situation up until the last minute and we were unable to do that so, we had to pull the plug,” said Myles.

He told NBC 10 the operators of the Belle have not yet decided how they will handle refunds for people who prepaid for cruises. When they figure it out, they will let their customers know said Myles.

The Philadelphia Belle was one of the featured offers on the Philadelphia version of Groupon, which launched this week. Groupon says it will automatically issue a credit card refund to anyone who got in on the deal.
