Mom Leaves 3 Children Home Alone: Cops

Police arrested a Delaware woman who allegedly left two of her kids and her neighbor's daughter alone at her apartment while she visited a convenience store with her middle child.

Police arrested a Delaware mother after she allegedly left two of her children and another child home alone while she went shopping.

On Saturday at 1:44 p.m., police responded to a home on the 2800 block of Northway Drive in the Carlton Court Apartment Complex in Newark.

When they arrived they say they discovered three children alone at the residence. Police say further investigation revealed Nia Rainey, 27, went to a convenience store with her 2-year-old daughter while she left her 8-year-old daughter, 1-year-old son and her neighbor’s 8-year-old daughter alone inside her apartment.

As the officers stayed at the residence, Rainey returned home and was immediately taken into custody without incident. She is charged with three counts of endangering the welfare of a child and was arraigned and released on $1500 unsecured bond. The Division of Family Services was notified and the children were temporarily placed in the custody of family members as the DFS investigates.

Rainey was ordered to have no unlawful contact with the children.
