Mom, Child Rescued at Jersey Shore

Kayak mishap leaves them stranded in a marsh near Stone Harbor

The Coast Guard rescued a mother and her 9-year old daughter, after they got stuck in a marsh near Stone Harbor on Wednesday afternoon.

The pair was kayaking in the area when the tide went out and left them aground.

A helicopter crew hoisted the woman and child from their stranded kayaks and took them to the hospital to be checked out.

The Coast Guard says the incident underscores the need for safety equipment on all water equipment.

Authorities remind everyone that life jackets and a reliable means of communications can help save a life.
