Mom Charged With Attempted Murder of Toddler

Police are charging a York County woman with attempted homicide, alleging she cut the neck of her 2-year-old son last week before attempting suicide.

The York Dispatch reported Friday that 36-year-old Candis Bradshaw was arraigned before a district judge on charges that also include assault and endangering a child's welfare.

The newspaper says court records indicate Bradshaw previously suffered postpartum depression and had recently become depressed. She wasn't represented by a lawyer at the proceeding.

Bradshaw told the judge she's a former resident of Hummelstown and is a stay-at-home mother in Etters.

The arrest affidavit alleges she cut her son on both sides of his neck, then stabbed herself in the chest. The boy survived. Police say she confessed to his stabbing, saying her husband will never forgive her.
