Mom Beaten in Sears Parking Lot Over Lane Change

Woman assaulted as her 1-year-old sits in backseat of car

A fight over a lane change ended with a Delco mom being beaten as her young daughter looked on.

The incident happened Wednesday night in the parking lot of Sears in Upper Darby, Pa., police say.

The woman, who asked not to be identified, tells NBC Philadelphia she was driving along Walnut Road when the passengers of a red Jeep accused her of cutting them off.

The man and woman in the Jeep then followed the victim into the department store's parking lot and began arguing with her.

"He preceded to say 'I should come over there and smack you' and then the next thing you know, the lady that was in the backseat, she got out of the car," the mom said.

The victim says the suspects pulled her hair and punched her all while her 1-year-old daughter sat in the car.

Several witnesses saw the attack and called police. Upper Darby Police Supt. Michael Chitwood says the suspects also stopped an officer to say it was the victim who fought them.

"A short time later, the two assailants stopped an Upper Darby Police officer and said that they were just in a confrontation in the Sears parking lot and that the woman attacked the woman in the Jeep," Chitwood said.

Police have issued warrants for the suspects.
