Mom Accused of Hiding Children Has 6th Child in Jail

Woman's five other kids lived without heat, electricity or running water, police say

York County authorities say a woman facing criminal charges after allegedly raising children in squalor and secrecy has given birth in jail to a sixth child.

A county spokesman said Wednesday that Louann Bowers and her infant were taken to a local hospital after the child was born inside York County Prison early Monday morning.

Bowers’ lawyer Ron Gross tells The York Dispatch the baby was born prematurely and will probably be put in foster care.

Police say the children, ages 2 to 13 years old, had lived without heat, electricity or running water in a dilapidated York home. They say the children had no birth certificates, schooling, immunizations or evidence of medical care.

The 33-year-old Bowers and her 45-year-old boyfriend, Sinhue Johnson, are both charged with five counts of child endangerment.
