Mom & Daughters, Ages 4 & 5, Die in Crash

A Trenton woman and her two young children were killed when her mother lost control of her car and collided with a pickup truck on a highway in New Jersey's capital city.

WATCH: Arrest made in house-sitter killing

Mercer County authorities say the crash occurred around 2:30 p.m. Sunday, as 43-year-old Jennifer Dawson was driving northbound on Route 29.

Dawson's car drifted into the southbound lane and hit a guardrail before it was struck on the passenger side by a southbound pickup truck driven by a 47-year-old Hamilton Township woman. The crash killed 28-year-old Shaneek Dawson and her daughters, 5-year-old A'iana Dodson and 4-year-old Trinidi Dawson, who were all pronounced dead at the scene.

Jennifer Dawson and the pickup truck driver, whose name was not released, were both being treated at a hospital for undisclosed injuries.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by both Trenton and Mercer County authorities, and no charges have been filed. No other vehicles were involved in the accident, which caused some travel delays in the area while the investigation was ongoing

Authorities say it does not appear that speed was a factor in the crash, and they say it appears that the pickup truck's driver could not have avoided the collision.
