Authorities say a New York man went missing while swimming near Indian River Inlet in Bethany Beach.

Wayne Kline, chief of enforcement for Delaware State Parks, says the man was swimming with two other people off the beach in Delaware Seashore State Park south of the inlet Saturday morning when they began to have difficulties. He says the two other swimmers made it back to shore and called 911.

Kline says Bethany Beach firefighters training nearby began looking for the man within a minute of the call. They were joined by U.S. Coast Guard and state police helicopters, state fish and wildlife police, Lewes firefighters and state park lifeguards.

Kline identified the man as Jeff King of Jordanville, N.Y.
