Authorities are awaiting autopsy results to determine how a missing kayaker died in northern New Jersey's Round Valley Reservoir.
Divers recovered 20-year-old Chen Shao's body 150 yards off the shore on Thursday. The North Brunswick resident was last seen swimming toward an overturned kayak on Wednesday night.
He was not wearing a life vest.
State Police spokeswoman Trooper Alina Spies tells the Courier News of Bridgewater the State Police’s Marine Unit, using side-scan sonar, found the body after 6 ½ hours of searching. The unit’s divers made the recovery.
There are six men whose bodies have never been recovered in the waters of the reservoir. Authorities scoured the lake with a submarine in 2006 but were not able to locate any of their remains.
