Pennsylvania State Police are renewing their efforts to find out who killed a Boy Scout more than four decades ago.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that police announced a new $25,000 reward on Thursday for information about the death of 11-year-old Terry Bowers.

The Delaware County boy was stabbed to death in his sleeping bag on April 26, 1970, during a camping trip with his troop in Chester County. At the time, police said they believed the weapon was a Boy Scout knife or similar blade.

A former Scout, Lawrence Wakely, once confessed to killing Bowers. But investigators said Wakely, who served time in prison for a rape conviction, had mental issues and was dismissed as a suspect.

Anyone with information is asked to call Pennsylvania State Police at (610) 486-6280 or Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers at 1-800-4PA-TIPS.
