Pennsylvania High School Football Player Battling Cancer Will Take Miss New Jersey to Prom

A Pennsylvania high schooler battling cancer will have a beauty queen with him at his upcoming dance.

Marcus Josey is a two-sport athlete who played quarterback for the Northeastern High School Bobcats. His world changed when he was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia last spring.

On Tuesday, the senior was given a very big reason to smile after the school confirmed that Miss New Jersey, Lindsey Giannini, accepted his invitation to the Manchester high school's Homecoming Dance Saturday night.

Giannini, a 21-year-old journalism student at Rowan University, was crowned in June 2015. Prior to being crowned β€˜Miss New Jersey,’ Giannini was a professional ballroom dance instructor.

Students in and around Northeastern High have been using a Twitter hashtag, #MarcuStrong, in support of their former quarterback and fellow student.

Josey continues to undergo chemotherapy treatment at Hershey Medical Center.
