A man was cited after police say he caused a four-vehicle crash in Millsboro, Delaware that injured 15 people.
Police say the crash occurred just before noon on Sunday at the intersection of U.S. Rt. 113 and Dagsboro Road. Walter Warrington, 79, of Frankford, Delaware was traveling northbound in a 2005 Mercury Marquis and tried to make a left turn onto Handy Road on a red light, officials said.
As Warrington crossed into the southbound lanes of Rt. 113 he drove directly into the path of a 2013 Chrysler Town and Country and collided with the vehicle. Warrington's vehicle then struck a 2002 Suzuki X17 pickup truck that was stopped on Handy Road. Finally Warrington's vehicle struck a 2009 Nissan Maxima that was also stopped on Handy Road. Warrington's vehicle then overturned onto its side before coming to a stop.
Warrington, who was properly restrained, was taken to Beebe Healthcare where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. He was cited with failure to stop at a red light.
The drivers of the other three vehicles involved in the crash, seven passengers in the Chrysler Town and Country and three passengers in the pickup truck all suffered non-life-threatening injuries. An eighth passenger in the Town and Country was treated for serious injuries at Christiana Hospital.
The intersection at Rt. 113 and Handy Road was closed for an hour and a half due to the crash.
