The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research Inc. has sued the Coriell Institute for Medical Research alleging the Camden, N.J., nonprofit’s failure to properly close a freezer door ruined blood and cerebrospinal fluid samples from Parkinson’s patients that were part of research studies.
The foundation — which is seeking more than $150,000 in damages — was paying Coriell to store the samples, which were being used in two studies being conducted to find the cause of Parkinson’s disease.
A Coriell spokesman said, "We have learned of the lawsuit and plan to vigorously defend ourselves against the allegations. However, we have a policy of not discussing matters that are in litigation."
