Teen Shoots Driver in Head, Car Crashes: Philadelphia Police

Philadelphia Police took a teenager into custody after a man was shot in the head while driving late Wednesday night.

The victim, who appears to be in his 20s, fought for his life in critical condition at Aria-Torresdale Hospital after being shot as he drove along Meridian Street near Torresdale Avenue in the city’s Holmesburg section around 9:30 p.m.

After being shot, the driver – who had no identification on him – crashed into some parked cars, said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small.

β€œWhen police and medics arrived on location they found a Mercury Sable with a driver who appeared to be shot one time in his head,” said Small.

A witness told police he witnessed the shooting and saw the shooter run into the rear of a home along neighboring Lansing Street, said Small.

The shooting suspect is 17 years old, said Small. Investigators planned to search the home where the boy was found.

β€œIt appears that the bullet entered the rear driver-side door window – breaking the window – then striking our victim in the head,” said Small.

Police recovered the bullet from the dashboard of the car that wound up crashed into two cars.
