Memorial Held for Woman Struck, Killed by Duck Boat

A memorial was held for a woman who was struck and killed by a Ride the Ducks boat while walking in downtown Philadelphia.

Celebration of life services took place Thursday for 68-year-old Elizabeth Karnicki in Beaumont, Texas. Karnicki died on May 8 when she was struck by a duck boat while walking in the city's Chinatown section. Karnicki was visiting Philadelphia with her husband at the time of her death.

Born in Chicago, Karnicki attended the University of Illinois and earned her master's degree at Lamar University. She also earned a Doctorate of Psychology and Adult Learning at the University of San Francisco.

The mother of three had a passion for traveling which she shared with her husband and she visited several places around the world, including Cuba and her family's native Poland. Karnicki also served as a congressional advocate for the AARP.

In addition to her husband and three kids she is also survived by her brother, son-in-law, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Friends and family shared their memories of Karnicki online.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the American Cancer Society.
