Medieval Weapon at Center of Beating Case

Police say an electric company worker was severely beaten

An Atlantic City Electric power worker is viciously attacked while on the job.

According to investigators, Matthew Pinto was severely beaten with a medieval-style weapon. Police say they’ve never anything like it.

Pinto was working outside a home on the White Horse Pike on Wednesday. That’s when 37-year old Roberto Vazquez allegedly went after him.  Authorities say Pinto was there to disconnect an illegal hookup.

“The only words that were mentioned were you are not shutting my power off or something to that effect” said Sgt. Edward Slimm of the Hammonton police department.

Pinto’s girlfriend is stunned.

“I was sick to my stomach because I had no idea it was as bad as it was.  His face was almost not recognizable” said Pinto’s Geri Johnson.  “I am surprised he is still alive.”

The 53-year old victim drove himself to the police station. He was found on the stoop outside.

“He was bleeding profusely from the head and hands” said Sgt. Slimm.

Pinto is home from the hospital with a dozen stiches in his head.

Vazquez was arrested on several charges.  Police say they found the weapon near the home’s electric meter.
