The mayor of Stafford Township says he was "appalled" by the arrest

Bail is set at $50,000 for an independent candidate running for mayor in a southern New Jersey town.
 
Thomas Litwin is accused of selling marijuana to an undercover police officer in Stafford Township.
 
The 43-year-old was challenging Republican Mayor George Spodofora in the November election.
 
The mayor tells the Asbury Park Press he was appalled by the arrest.
 
The other independent candidate in the race is Paul Marchal.
