Mayor Jim Kenney Appoints New Head of Black Male Initiative

Mayor Jim Kenney has appointed Jack Drummond as his liaison on issues affecting young men of color.

Drummond will lead the Office of Black Male Engagement, started in 2011 and aimed at improving black men's access to health, educational, employment, and mentoring opportunities across several city agencies. The office was created by former Mayor Michael Nutter.

Drummond will also manage the Mayor's Commission on African American Males.

The west Philadelphia native is an adjunct professor and academic adviser at the Community College of Philadelphia, where he has also worked with the school's Center for Male Engagement. In his new role, Drummond will also help with My Brother's Keeper, President Barack Obama's initiative to help boys and young men of color.
