Gunmen Rob, Attack Ice Cream Shop Owner

Police are on the hunt for armed robbers who attacked an ice cream shop owner and his sister.

Investigators say three men stormed into the shop on North Montpelier Avenue in Atlantic City on Sunday shortly before 9 p.m. and demanded cash.

“They pushed me from my counter,” said the shop owner, Mohammod Rashid. “I fell down.”

Police say the men also pushed Rashid’s 61-year-old sister, Asia Laldin, to the floor.

‘They hit me also and I fell down,” Laldin said. “I still have pain here, still pain here and I’m still scared.”

Rashid, who suffered a dislocated shoulder in the attack, says the three men got away with $800 from the register plus more cash and an iPhone from two customers who were inside. Police also say within the past eight weeks, about five other businesses in the area have been robbed. They have not yet confirmed whether those incidents are connected to Sunday’s robbery.

“We suspect they’re involved in a few more,” said Atlantic City Police Lieutenant Rodney Ruark. “We haven’t connected it to them yet but we’re working on it heavily. This is the first one we’ve had with three.”

Rashid and Laldin say they’ll have trouble paying their rent due to the robbery.

“Now I don’t have anything,” Rashid said.

Police say the three suspects are in their late teens to early 20’s. The first suspect was wearing a black sweatshirt with the word “Air” in red lettering across the front and “Head” in white, along with a black floppy fisherman’s hat, according to investigators.

Investigators say the second suspect was wearing a green hooded winter jacket with fur around the hood. Finally, investigators say, the third suspect was wearing a grey and black striped hooded sweatshirt.
