Gunmen Open Fire From Philly Playground, Kill Driver Nearby: Police

A driver died after being shot by two gunmen standing near a swing set at a North Philadelphia playground Wednesday night.

The gunmen opened fire from the playground at N Marvine and W Venango toward the Breion Wallace's sedan around 9:50 p.m., said Philadelphia Police.

At least seven shots struck the silver Hyundai Accent, breaking most of the windows, said police.

The 22-year-old driver began to take off but crashed into a fence across the street shortly up the block, said police. Medics found Wallace shot in the face and chest, he died a short time late at nearby Temple University Hospital.

Police didn’t immediately give a motive for the shooting and no arrests were made.
