Manayunk Doc Raped Teen at Gunpoint: Cops

Gynecologist allegedly threw parties for teens, bought girls jewelry and clothes

A retired gynecologist who allegedly threw wild parties for teenagers is facing rape charges after police say he put a gun to the head of a girl and raped her.

Police say 61-year-old Tawfik Nakishbendi, who neighborhood teens called “Sugar Daddy,” was arrested Thursday after police received an anonymous tip earlier this month about a man providing drugs and alcohol to teens and having sex with them.

Lt. Frank Vanore says investigators located the alleged victim, who led them to Nakishbendi.

Roxborough resident Denise Durkin told the Daily News that her 16-year-old daughter attended the parties where as many as 25 teens would drink alcohol, smoke marijuana, and take prescription drugs provided by Nakishbendi at the retired doctor’s house.

Durkin said that the parties started after Nakishbendi’s wife committed suicide and after he retired.

When he was not throwing parties, the retired gynecologist would take teen girls shopping, buying them clothes, jewelry and food, Durkin told the Daily News. It wasn’t until Nakishbendi asked her daughter for nude photos that she told her mother and stopped going to the doctor’s house, said Durkin.

"It's just sick," she said. "Grown women sometimes can't protect themselves in situations like that, and for a child to be put in that situation is that much harder."

Nakishbendi faces charges including rape, sexual assault and corruption of minors. He is jailed in lieu of $250,000 bail. Online court records do not list an attorney for him.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 10.
