Dozens of bicyclists and hundreds of fans will take to Manayunk's streets this morning for the Parx Casino Philly Cycling Classic road race.
The one-day bike event kicks off at 6:45 a.m. when amateurs begin a 30-mile trek along mostly closed roads, which will take them along the same course as the professional bicyclists.
The professional women's race will start at 8:30 a.m. with the competitors completing five laps of the 12-mile circuit. The men, who will circle the same course 10 times, are set to begin at noon.
The race will force the bicyclists to battle the famously steep Manayunk Wall, which is along Lyceum Avenue between Pechin and Main streets. The start and finish lines are at the top of iconic hill.
As revelers watch the pros compete for part of the $62,000 prize money, motorists are advised to steer clear of many of the neighborhood's roads, which will be shut down for the event.
