Man Charged in Schuylkill River Trail Slashing

The 29-year-old man is charged with aggravated assault and related offenses in the daylight attack

A man has been charged in the slashing of a young woman's face along the Schuylkill River Trail in Center City Thursday afternoon, police said.

Isiah Cheeseboro, 29, was arrested Friday after being positively identified by the victim, police said. He's charged with aggravated assault and related offenses.

Police said Cheeseboro followed the 24-year-old victim as she walked west on the trail around 3 p.m. Thursday. He allegedly approached her as she climbed the steps at the 2400 block of Walnut Street and said "you don't know anything" before slashing the woman across the forehead with a sharp object.

The woman suffered a three inch cut and was taken to Penn Presbyterian Trauma Center for treatment. She's expected to be fine.

A motive for the slashing was not immediately known.

The attack is the latest in a string of safety issues along the popular riverside tract. A community watch is being organized to provide a layer of additional security on the trail. Organizers say it should be up and running by the end of June.
