The man was shot twice in the stomach after allegedly firing at police officers.

One man is in the hospital after a police involved shooting in Kensington.

It happened shortly after midnight Tuesday morning on the 600 block of East Ontario Street.

Investigators say police were patrolling the area in an unmarked car and in plain clothes when they spotted Jose Delvalle, 39, walking around with a gun. They approached Delvalle and told him to drop his weapon, according to investigators.

Police then say Delvalle fired at them and ran off. They chased after him for a few blocks and opened fire, striking Delvalle twice in the stomach.

He was taken to Temple University Hospital where he remains in critical condition. No officers were harmed in the incident.

Delvalle is charged with aggravated assault, violation of the Uniform Firearms Act and related offenses.
