Authorities say an elderly man died after getting outside his burning north Philadelphia home twice but then re-entering the building each time.

The Philadelphia Inquirer said the body of 72-year-old Edwin Walker was found after the Wednesday morning blaze in the.

Neighbors told fire officials that they saw the victim struggle onto a porch roof, but then climb back inside.

Minutes later, they said, he was seen on the front porch but seemed disoriented and again turned around and went inside.

Neighbors who got just inside the front door reported seeing Walker run upstairs, where fire was consuming the second floor.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Officials said it started on the second floor, where two space heaters were found in a front room.
