Police are searching for a man and woman who they say stole a puppy at a local pet store.

Investigators say it happened on Tuesday afternoon at the Playful Pets store on 115 Ridge Pike in the Conshohocken section of Plymouth Township. A woman distracted the store clerk while a man removed a 9-week old tan and black Maltese and Yorkshire puppy mix from a bin and placed it under his sweatshirt before leaving the store.

“It’s just despicable,” said Beth Ann Neushwander, the manager of the store. “In broad day light and on top of that you had the audacity to stand there with the puppy underneath your shirt and talk to us. It’s brazen.”

Sibling of Stolen Puppy

Workers at the store say the puppy is valued at $959. The male suspect is described by store workers as a heavy set man with a full beard, standing between 5-foot-10 and 6-feet. They also say he was wearing a loose sweatshirt. Police have not released a description of the female suspect.

Police say this is the 4th puppy theft at Playful Pets of the year. If you have any information on this incident, please call Plymouth Township Police at 610-834-9951.
