Man Who Raped Disabled Women Gets 24-60 Years

A serial rapist who preyed on mentally disabled women has been sentenced by a Philadelphia judge to spend 24 to 60 years in prison.

William Walker, 44, pleaded guilty to raping four women over a 12-day span in July 2012.

Walker met his first victim, a mentally disabled woman living in an assisted living facility, back on July 14, 2012. Walker held the woman down with a pillow over her face, beat, choked and raped her.

That same day, Walker attacked another mentally disabled woman only two blocks away who was also living at an assisted living facility. Walker pulled her into a wooded area, beat her and raped her.

The next day, Walker found another mentally-disabled woman, who lived in a group home, on the street smoking a cigarette. Walker dragged her into a wooded area, beat her, and then raped her

A week later, Walker attacked a fourth woman and dragged her down the street. A witness spotted Walker however and called 911. Responding police officers interrupted the assault and arrested Walker.

Walker pleaded guilty to four counts of rape, one count of aggravated assault and other related offenses.

Common Pleas Judge Donna Woelpper at Monday's sentencing hearing called Walker a "danger to society'' and a "poor candidate for rehabilitation.''

Defense attorney Catherine Berryman said Walker has an IQ of 81 and suffered a lifetime of child abuse, psychiatric problems and drug abuse.
