Man Wanted in Gym Locker Theft & Spending Spree: Police

Police say the man took car keys from an unlocked gym locker and stole a retired cop's wallet from his car

Police say a man snuck into the B & R Fitness in Lower Southampton Township through the handicapped entrance on June 20 and went into the gym locker room.

The man then stole a set of car keys from an unlocked gym locker, according to police. He is spotted on surveillance video walking outside the gym to look for the vehicle that matched the stolen keys. Police say he rummaged through car and stole the victim's wallet.

"My locker wasn't locked, there was nothing in my locker except my car keys," said Charles Galvin, victim, who is also a retired cop.

Galvin told NBC10's Deanna Durante he thought it would be safer storing his valuables in his car, instead of the gym locker.

"I worked the street for 20 years, you know how many theft reports I took in 20 years? I've never been on the other side, it's much more upsetting on the other side," Galvin said.

Police say the victim's credit cards were used within 30 minutes of the theft at a Best Buy in Willow Grove. But he didn't stop there, police say he hit nearly a dozen spots using the stolen cards.

"He had a great time, shopping on somebody else's dime," said Detective Eric Landamia, Lower Southampton Township Police.

Investigators say the man was seen leaving the gym on a bike in the surveillance video, but think he may have had a car or an accomplice because of the number of stores he was able to hit.

Anyone with information on the identity of this man is asked to call Lower Southampton Township Police at 215-357-1235, ext. 339.
