Man Steals from Nuns

Thief goes from room to room, stealing from nuns in NE Philadelphia.

A man broke into the home for the Holy Sisters of Nazareth early Saturday morning, went from room to room, stealing from them.

Police hope surveillance video will help them catch the burglar.

Around 4am, the man rolled up in front of Delaney Hall in a white passenger van. The building is used as a residence by the nuns, who are teachers at Holy Family University and at Nazareth Academy.

The man pried through the front door of the Hall and then got into the first floor office, which he ransacked and stole $130.00 cash.

He then went to the second floor to a series of rooms where 19 sisters were sleeping. He began to take their purses and other personal effects.

When he reached the 4th victim, she woke up and asked why he was there. He shined a flashlight to the ceiling and said he was a security officer there to check the premises.

The suspect left after the confrontation with the nun. She called police.

The burglar is described as a White Male, 5'8-5'10, thin build with a gray sweatshirt and jeans.

He was driving an older model White Passenger Van, late 80's-early 90's with windows around the sides and very dirty.

Police think the suspect is also responsible for a series of commercial robberies in Northeast Philadelphia; mostly at gas station and mini market establishments.
