Man to Stand Trial in Roommate's Stabbing Death

An eastern Pennsylvania man has been ordered to stand trial in the stabbing death of his roommate earlier this year.

Twenty-five-year-old Emanuel Cotto is charged in Northampton County with criminal homicide in the Jan. 4 death of 58-year-old Michael Weadock in Bethlehem.

Authorities testified at a preliminary hearing Monday that Cotto called police to say he had killed his roommate, then threatened to kill any police officers who arrived.

Police said they found the victim lying in a pool of blood that had spattered onto the walls, stairs, and sofa of the living room.

Coroner Zachary Lysek said the victim died from blood loss due to 32 stab wounds, some of them injuries on his hands and extremities indicating that he had tried to ward off the attack.
