Man Sought in Homeless Shelter Slaying Surrenders

A man sought in the fatal beating of another man at a northern New Jersey homeless shelter on New Year's Day has turned himself in to authorities.

Hudson County prosecutors announced Sunday that 49-year-old Terrance Grant was being held on $500,000 cash bail. He's expected to make his initial court appearance in the next few days.

Grant surrendered Saturday night at a Jersey City police station. He's charged with murder in the death of 51-year-old Jose Rodriguez, whose body was found by his roommate at the Franciska Residence in Jersey City.

Authorities have not disclosed a possible motive for the attack.

An autopsy determined that Rodriguez died from multiple blunt force injuries to the head. His death was ruled a homicide

It wasn't known if Grant has retained an attorney.
