A man is in critical condition after being shot by Philadelphia Police during a traffic stop in the city's Kingsessing section.

Philadelphia Police officers opened fire on a man during a traffic stop in the city's Kingsessing section last night and it's possible the man mistook the officers for possible robbers.

Police say two officers responding to a report of gunshots shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday in the area of 51st Street and Willows Avenue saw a man walking down the street and tried to stop him.

Police say the man fled to a car and put it in reverse, and the officers then fired because they feared for their safety.
