Suspect Shot in Scuffle with Drexel Police

Shooting victim rushed to the hospital

A 39-year old man was shot late Friday afternoon by a Drexel University police officer.

Investigators tell NBC10 the man had just tried to assault a woman getting into her car near 32nd and Arch Streets. She managed to get away from him and into Drexel's police station.

An officer ran outside. Police say the suspect punched the officer in the face and made a grab for his gun. That's when the officer shot him.

"The male was able to get his hands on the officers gun, the officer was able to push the male off, pulled his gun from his holster and fired two times" said Lt. John Walker of the Philadelphia Police Department.

The suspect was wounded in the hand and thigh and taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

The officer was also hospitalized. Both are in stable condition.
