Man Shot and Killed After Attacking Girlfriend With Knife: Police

A Philadelphia Police officer shot and killed a man overnight after that man allegedly lunged at the officer with a knife.

Police say the man was arguing with his girlfriend around 11 Monday night on the 300 block of W. Courtland Street in the Feltonville section of the city. During the argument, the man slashed her in the face, according to investigators.

When 25th District Police arrived, they say they found the 32-year-old suspect straddling over top of the 23-year-old woman and holding a 14-inch kitchen knife to her throat, according to Chief Inspector Scott Small.

"The officers ordered this male several times to drop his knife, the male refused," Small said. "The male then lunged towards the officers and one officer fired several shots."

The man was hit multiple times in the torso and collapsed at the scene. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

The man’s girlfriend was taken to the hospital with minor stab wounds to her face, Small said.

Small said police were speaking to several witnesses and also the officer that opened fire.

The identities of the suspect, victim and the officers weren't released.
