Police are investigating the death of a 27-year-old woman. The victim's boyfriend claims he accidentally shot her following an argument with a neighbor who allegedly threatened him with a hammer. NBC10's Nefertiti Jaquez has the details. (Published Sunday, Mar 31, 2013)

A 28-year-old man who said he accidentally shot and killed his girlfriend over the weekend is now facing murder charges.

Kuldip Singh, of the Kensington section of the city, is charged with killing Sherell Baker, 26, according to Philadelphia Police.

Police sources told NBC10’s Nefertiti Vaquez that Singh told police he was arguing with his neighbor, possibly an "uncle," in front of his home on E Seltzer Street around 7:45 p.m. Saturday. Singh claimed that his neighbor pulled out a hammer and threatened him during the heated exchange.

Police sources told Jaquez the argument with the uncle was over $50.

Singh says he felt scared for his safety so he pulled out a gun. He then tripped over his own feet and accidentally pulled the trigger, shooting his girlfriend in the neck. Baker was taken to the hospital where she died.

On Monday, Philadelphia Police would only say that the motive for the killing was an argument. They said they didn’t know if there actually was another argument first.

Singh was arraigned Monday on Murder and weapons charges, according to court records.

Police sources told Jaquez that he has a license to carry a firearm as well as a clean record.
