Man Sentenced for Role in Torture of Couple

A Camden man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for his role in the killing of a couple who were found buried in a Camden yard in 2010.

Twenty-two-year-old Dennis Welch received the term after pleading guilty earlier this year to aggravated manslaughter.

He admitted beating 23-year-old Michael Hawkins.

Authorities say Hawkins and Muriah Huff were both tortured, beaten, shot and buried in a the back yard of a Camden home in 2010. The bodies were not discovered for three days.

Hawkins, an alleged Crips gang member, was bound, gagged and beaten so badly nearly every bone in his face was broken. He was shot multiple times and stabbed.

Huff, from Cinnaminson, was beaten and strangled.

All 10 suspects in the case have pleaded guilty or been convicted by a jury. The last was Peter Leonce, who was convicted on Thursday.
