Man Robs Bank, Crashes Car in Police Pursuit

Alleged armed robber leads police on chase that ends in wrong-way wreck

Emergency crews are on the scene of a crash involving a bank robbery suspect following a police pursuit in Bucks County.

Police say that around 11 a.m., the First Federal Bank on Highland Park Way in Middletown was robbed by a man who fled the scene in a gray Ford Taurus.

Cops chased the car.

"This gray car, which appeared to be a getaway car, flew -- avoiding police -- airborne... going about 80 mph," said witness Steve Teng.

Investigators tell NBC10 that while being pursued, the suspect drove the wrong way on Oxford Valley Road and crashed into two oncoming vehicles.

The drivers of the other vehicles involved were both injured and transported to area hospital -- one in serious condition, according to police.

Police say the alleged bank robber still tried to get away even after the wreck.

"Officers were immediately on scene and observed the actor climbing out of the window of the vehicle and he had a gun on him and cash," said Middletown Township Police Lt. John Michniewicz.

The robbery suspect was listed in critical condition -- under armed guard -- at a local hospital.
