Man Reports Fake Robbery

Delaware State Police have arrested a man they say falsely reported he was robbed to cover up his theft from his employer.

Police say on June 2, 28-year-old Charles Wertz of Newark called 911 to report he had been robbed. Troopers say Wertz told them he was driving to deposit cash from Dunkin Donuts, where he worked, when a truck cause a minor crash.

Officers say Wertz told them a passenger got out of the truck, cut Wertz with a small knife, and stole the deposit bag.

Investigators say no surveillance video from nearby businesses showed a truck near Wertz's vehicle.

One June 8, Wertz was charged with felony falsely reporting an incident and theft over $1,500.
