Pregnant Woman Murdered, Man Pleads Guilty

He was accused of stabbing and killing a 24-year-old woman & her unborn child

Charged with two counts of third-degree murder, a Stroudsburg man confessed to stabbing and killing an expectant mother and her unborn child in February 2011.

Ruben Velazquez Jr., 42, said he murdered Krystle Ann Vasquez, 24, after an argument at his Broad Street apartment, according to The Pocono Record.

Authorities say at the time of the incident the victim was eight months pregnant with her unborn daughter, who was also killed.

The Pocono Record reports that Velazquez suffers from mental issues.

Velazquez submitted his guilty plea in Monroe County Court on Wednesday. He is scheduled to be sentenced on June 21.

He faces a maximum of 80 years in prison. Defense attorney T. Alex Jones said he could receive anywhere between five and 40 years behind bars for each count.
