Man Pleads Guilty in DWI Crash That Killed 3 Relatives

A northern New Jersey man who was driving drunk when he caused an accident that killed three relatives has pleaded guilty to numerous charges, including aggravated manslaughter.

Morris County prosecutors say 38-year-old Luis Torres, of Jersey City, also pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of vehicular homicide and five counts of assault by auto. He faces up to 20 years in prison when he's sentenced May 29.

Prosecutors say Torres was driving home from a birthday-party barbecue when his sport utility vehicle overturned on Route 15 in Jefferson Township in August 2013.

Killed in the crash were Torres' mother-in-law, his 11-year-old stepdaughter and a niece who was five months pregnant. Torres and five other people in the SUV were injured, but all have since recovered.
