Man Ordered to Stand Trial in Elderly Man's Beating Death

The death of a Philadelphia man eight months after he was beaten unconscious has led to charges against his alleged assailant.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports a judge on Wednesday ordered 23-year-old Kareem Mosley to stand trial on third-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter charges in the death of his 63-year-old neighbor Richard Eley.

Eley was stomped into unconsciousness inside his home in April 2012 and died the following December at a hospice. Assistant District Attorney Jan McDermott said he never regained consciousness.

A witness in court identified Mosley as the attacker.

Defense attorney Gerald Stein says there's no proof Eley's death was related to the beating.

A medical examiner testified that the autopsy still showed evidence of the brain bleeding and bruises Eley sustained in the attack.
