Man Ordered to Pay Slain Wife's Funeral Expense

A western Pennsylvania man serving a life term in the strangulation murder of his wife has been ordered to pay her family more than $14,000 to compensate them for her funeral expenses.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that a Westmoreland County judge ordered the restitution Monday from 44-year-old David Stahl.

But Judge Rita Hathaway also ruled that Stahl won't have to pay $46,000 to the law firm of his wife's brother for legal expenses associated with Rebecca Stahl's estate.

David Stahl was convicted of first-degree murder in the February 2012 death of the 37-year-old Derry Area schoolteacher.

He said she attacked him inside their Hempfield Township home, but prosecutors said he killed her after an argument and kept her body in a shed for two days before dumping it.
