A man is accused of using drain cleaner to kill a toddler.

Aaron Pace, 33, of North Philadelphia, was baby-sitting for 20-month-old Suliaman Kirkland on Feb. 2, police say.

They allege that the defendant doused a rag with the caustic substance and rubbed it onto the child's skin because the boy had been uncooperative and crying.

Relatives of the suspect discovered the child's injuries and called his mother, homicide Lt. Philip Riehl says. The boy was rushed to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in critical condition and died of his injuries Sunday.

Pace was charged with murder and related counts and remained in custody Monday.

A listed number for him could not be found and it was unclear whether he had an attorney.
