Police are searching for a second suspect

A Philadelphia man was shot to death after trying to rob an off-duty cop Sunday, according to police.

It happened around 2a.m. in the 5800 block of Catherine Streets in West Philadelphia.

An off duty officer who was headed home after working the night shift at the 19th District, was approached by two men who announced they were going to rob him, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

One of the men put a gun to the officer's chest. The officer, who had his gun with him, fired one shot at the suspect who later died at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.  The other suspect fired at the officer while leaving the scene.

Police said the second suspect is between 18-20 years old, about 5 feet, 7 inches tall and wearing a tan hooded shirt.
