Man Injured In I-95 Crash

30-year-old in serious condition

A Wilmington man is in serious condition after a car accident on Interstate 95 early Sunday morning.

The accident occurred at around 7 a.m. and resulted in the southbound lanes of 95 being closed for two hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

Investigators say that 30-year-old Vivek Siruvuri had pulled over to the shoulder to adjust and secure the straps of a kayak that was on top of his Honda Accord. While Siruvuri was out of the car, investigators say that a Ford Escape drifted onto the shoulder and struck the rear of the Honda. As a result of the impact, the vehicle hit Siruvuri, throwing him approximately 30 feet in the air.

Siruvuri was taken to Christiana Hospital with multiple traumatic injuries. The driver of the Escape, 23-year-old John McCool of Wilmington, was cited for inattentive driving.
